ADVENTUROUS LANKA

Stating from the small fishing village - Negombo, head up North to Kalpitiya for an experince of wildlife and beautiful Kalpitiya beaches which are very well known for all sprts oif watersports including surfing. Proceed to Dambulla , en-route visit the Pinnawala Elephant orphanage, climb sigiriya, explore the heritage sites of Dambulla. Spend two days jungle trekking, white water rafting, stream sliding, waterfall hunting etc... at Kithugala. Finally to Colombo the day before your departure for a city tour.

DAY 1

Arrival- Pick up |Negombo

Arrive in Katunayeka International Airport, Sri Lanka.

DAY 2

Kalpitiya

Breakfast at the Hotel.

Proceed to Kalpitiya.

Kalpitiya on the north west coast is a beach with sea and lagoon on either side.  It’s one of the three main destinations where blue whales and dolphins bubble; a spectacle attracting many tourists across the world during the season. Secret is out that; during the three decade long ethnic conflict, Sri Lanka’s territorial waters created a safe haven for the  blue whale population that is fast becoming extinct from the world. 

Kalpitiya is also widely known for all sorts of water sports! So, the adventure begins!
 
Once you’ve checked into the Ruwala Resort, you will have plenty of time to do all sorts of water sports.
 
In the afternoon you’ll be heading towards the famous Willpattu to explore Sri Lanka’s largest and the oldest national park.  Lush vegetation, herds of deer, leopards, sea eagles, mammals and reptiles, inland lakes (Wilpattu meaning natural lakes in Sinhala) are what makes this a unique travel spot.

 Did you know that, there are historically important sites scattered through the Wilpattu jungle? You can hunt them down too! Wilpattu is where the founder of the birth of the Sinhala civilization is said to have arrived.  He landed at Thambaanni- meaning the red terrain.  The sand timed water basins said to have been used by a queen of the Yakka tribe who used to have lived here have now turned bathing spots for the wild animals. The heart of the jungle still carry the traces of this by gone era - the stone pillar of a royal palace.

DAY 3

Kalpitiya

Today you’ll have an early morning boat ride – It’s time to see the Whales and Dolphins! Extremely shy and timid blue whales just make a quick appearance; so make sure you don’t miss out as you navigate on the waters.

 
Once you are back on shore feel free indulge yourself with more water sports! Wind surfing, sailing on either a laser or a catamaran, kayaking and canoeing are some of your options!

DAY 4

Dambulla

On the way visit Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala.

It’s your day with the Asian elephants!

Home to young elephants found abandoned by their mothers in the jungle, those displaced or wounded, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage located in Kegalle-Rambukkana Road is one of the greatest tourist attractions in Sri Lanka.

Established to feed, nurse and house these baby elephants, the home also boats of many success stories of natural elephant breeding in the captive condition. Here you will get to catch a glimpse into their daily routine- from bathing to feeding; make close encounters and take plenty of pictures with these giant beasts.

Most of the elephants there got fascinating name stories which their Mahouts will so willingly share if you talk to them.

Continue to Dambulla

This expedition will take you through historical and scenic beauty of Dambulla.

Here you’ve got a bit of climbing to do as well.

Climb up, you will enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding. An ancient King on exile is said to have taken refuge here. Inside the cave, where you find a large collection of Buddha statues and the roof which is a beautiful canvas of about 2000 years old Buddhist paintings .

During the journey you will also be travelling to Ibbankatuwa - one of the ancient burial sites found in Sri Lanka that dates back to the pre historic era, Ironwood Grove Forest Monastery- ancient cave dwelling with Brahmin inscriptions.

Damubulla is also considered the Centre of Vegetable distribution. So why not try a traditional Sri

Lankan rice and curry meal too?

DAY 5

Polonnaruwa|Sigiriya

Visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress

Imagine you in the middle of a massive 200 meter rock fortress of 5th Century AD… A royal palace built on a colossal rock using the most sophisticated technology; having unique frescoes dating back to over thousand years - a place that has intrigued many archaeologists and historians, let alone the tourists, all over the world.

How do you feel? Enthralled right?

The remains of the citadel on a massive rock, the unique Lion Gate, the mirror wall, moats, ponds and archaeological ruins of Sigiriya makes it the Eighth Wonder of the World. Well, you have to see it to believe it!

We suggest you visit the museum outside at the main entrance on your way down or before you climb up the summit for a little familiarization to make the most of your tour.

 
Proceed to Polonnaruwa UNESCO heritage sites

Polonnaruwa is a grandeur unsurpassed. An interesting mix of Buddhism, ancient craftsmanship, arts, architecture and South Indian Hindu culture spread across around 122 hectares - an experience that would forever be etched in the traveller’s mind.

Kithulgala

Proceed to Kitulgala.

As we’ve explored the old city ruins and ancient historical artifacts now moving on to more adventurous activities you will be further down to Kitulgala.

Once you’ve checked into your hotel you will be taken to the rivers as Kitulgala is synonymous with white water rafting!
 A thrill of a heart stopping white water rafting ride in the beautiful water streams tucked in the middle of the jungle, and to slip and slide on the rocks sounds amazing right? Well here’s the opportunity to have the time of your life!

DAY 7

Kithulgala

Spend the day trekking through the jungles of Kithulgala, in search of the pre historic Belilena cave which is home to Homo sapiens balangodensis. Around 1km trek that falls through a rubber estate to reach this prehistoric cave where evidence of pre historic human presence- 16,000 year old skeletal and historic tools were uncovered during archaeological excavations.

Colombo
