Day 01

Welcome to the wonder of Asia. In the coming few days, you will be discovering this beautiful paradise island rich in heritage, thrill, scenic, pristine and hospitality in abundance with team Wanderlust Asia.
Meet your tour representative who will greet you with a warm Sri Lankan welcome. Enjoy a refreshingly cup of Ceylon Tea and proceed to Hotel in Negombo. Check-in to your hotel and spend the rest of the day relaxed.

Day 02 - Anuradhapura sacred city

Taking you back in time -to Sri Lanka’s First Capital. The heart of Sri Lanka’s majestic civilization enriched with an ancient city continuously inhabited, Anuradhapura was Sri Lanka’s first capital. Having served as a centre of Buddhism in ancient day, the place is an epitome of exquisite sculpture, magnificent feats of architecture and hydraulic sophistication. The cluster of reservoirs and irrigation channels, the ruins of royal palaces, pleasure gardens, dagoba, Buddhist sculpture and other age old ruins depicting the embodiment of Buddhism, history and culture found in the city today stands testimony to the grandeur of a bygone era founded in the 5th Century BC and self- sustained in the decades afterwards. Anuradhapura is also a key agricultural area of the country with field crops, fruits, vegetables and spices being widely cultivated.

Day 03 - Travel to North

Day 04 - Northern Culture

Day 05 - Eastern Beach

Transfer to Trincomalee, Famed to have the world’s 5th largest natural harbour which also served as a military base during World War II, the sites you will explore here include the iconic Portuguese build Federick Fort; the famous Koneswaran temple referred to by the European as the temple of thousand pillars majestically standing on the Swami Rock which lies above sea level and offering a panoramic view of the Indian Ocean; the Lovers Leap which is associated with the tragic tale of two lovers jumping off the cliff of the Swami Rock to profess their love and the Kanniya hot water springs.
If a relaxed beach day is what you prefer the most, Nilaveli Beach with crystal clear water is the place for you. For those of you who are adventurous type, snorkelling in Pigeon Island (only a short boat ride) or visiting the marine park to enjoy the marine life or whale watching (seasonal activity) are some of the options available.

Day 07 - Ruins in Polonnaruwa

Polonnaruwa is a grandeur unsurpassed. An interesting mix of Buddhism, ancient craftsmanship, arts, architecture and South Indian Hindu culture spread across around 122 hectares - an experience that would forever be etched in the traveler’s mind.
Within this walled citadel you would find the significant monuments best preserved to date such as the flora stone pillared pavilion called Nissanka Latha Mandapaya; the Royal Citadel and the ponds; the impressive Vatadage relic house; Tuparamaya image house; the circular relic house; the golden pinnacled stupa- Rankoth Vehera; the extravagant moonstones; guard stones and sculpture; Kirivehera dagoba; the glorious Polonnanru Gal Viharaya with breathtaking rock sculptures;

Day 08 - Over the Malaveli river

Mahiyanganaya

Sri Lanka’s longest river Mahaweli flows through. Accessible through a scenic route with number of hairpin turns. Mahiyanganaya has historical links- Lord Buddha is said to have first visited here to settle a dispute that took place between two tribal groups that occupied the island, back in the day. Mahiyanganaya Stupa at the city centre was built later, in the shape of a bell depositing the Buddha’s hair relic.
The still waters of the breathtaking Sora Bora Wewa Reservoir you must enjoy while in Mahiyanganaya.
An engineering feat dating back to 120 BC constructed on a natural granite rock by an ancient King’s warrior. Visitors to Sora Bora Weva tank have their hearts set on the suspension bridge found here which is used by the villagers today to commute across the tank.

Day 09 - Tribes of Dambana

On a trail to discover Sri Lanka’s aborigines. This once in a life time experience -some 330 km off Colombo takes you to the jungle village of Sri Lanka’s indigenous people- known Veddhas- the descends of island’s first inhabitants. Archeological evidence suggest that the origins of the Veddha tribe dates back to the stone-age.
Does the idea of camping out in the Veddah villages itself sound out of this world? Then join us on a memorable journey to the back of beyond. Your night out in the Veddah village will include your own private tent and flushable toilet and an independent kitchen where your meals will be prepared and served.

Day 10 - Lipton Seat

Nuwara Eliya

A misty covered town in Badulla dotted with tea fields; carrying with it a romantic trace.
Some of the places to explore here will be the Lipton’s Seat - the favourite look out point of the great tea legend Sir Thomas Lipton and the Diyaluma waterfall -the second highest waterfall in Sri Lanka - 220 meters high, St. Benedictine monastery which falls through the Thangamale bird sanctuary and Dambatenne tea factory established some100 years back by Thomas Lipton. At the tea factory, you will experience first-hand, the tea manufacturing and refining process. You can also purchase world famous Ceylon tea here.

Day 11 - Relax dat at misty climate

A walk around the tea plateaus admiring the golden sunset that blends with lush green mountains is also an ideal outdoor activity while in Haputale.

Day 12 - Udawalawe NP

Udawalawe

Udawalawe national park that was set up to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the Udawalawe Reservoir construction work back in the 1970s, now a safe haven for elephants, birds, butterflies, reptiles and mammals.
Take a jeep safari at Udawalawa National park and visit Elephant Transit home
Elephants - you may spot them in the wild even mid-day or spot one or two of them near the tank. Even more interesting close encounter you could make if you visit the Elephant Transit Home at the park where orphaned elephant calves are rehabilitated prior to their release into the wild.
